Rocket Pants’ Top 100 Games of all time!

We did it! We managed to hop on the bandwagon!

For those unaware, last night we recorded a podcast with our Guest Host Mr. Eric Bailey. At one point of the discussion, the dreadfully awful Edge Magazine list of 100 Best Games of All Time (not affected by nostalgia or historical importance) came up. I reminisced on the fact that top 100 lists without context are useless and probably impossible to do collaboratively.

Seems like I wasn’t the only one to think so! Soon after we finished recording, we saw our friend Pam give her take on the Top 100 Best Games list. It certainly fell closer to my personal preferences.

Of course, I thought a lot of people would join the exercise. What I did not expect is for Eric Bailey to somehow give his own take on the list a couple of minutes after we finished recording. He even included a podcast inside joke on the list. Marvelous!

Seeing this, I knew the Rocket Pants crew had to chime in. We created our own top 100 list and, to avoid unnecessary debates, we just rotated each making a pick every three position. This “Fantasy Draft” inspired method created… a monster. A horrible creature that clouded my judgement and exposed me to tension and stress I did not wish for.

So there you have it. To be honest, at the end, I was making choices that were less personal and more along the lines of “preserving our gaming credibility.” You know what? I still failed. I look at that list, see the games that aren’t there and I feel shame. So, what do YOU think about our list? How many times did you cringe? What did we blatantly left out? What kind of fanboys are we? We’re adults (-ish), we can take it.

Also, if you made your own top 100 list, let us know. I certainly want to read it. See you around, fellow Rocket Panties (This name for our community is still pending approval.)

P.S. Yes, we are aware that Legend of Zelda – Link’s Awakening is on there twice. The DX version and the standard one are VASTLY different… apparently… Go figure…
